Thomas Egerton (1er vicomte Brackley)
Thomas Egerton, 1er baron Ellesmere puis 1er vicomte Brackley, est un homme politique anglais né le et mort le . Il occupe le poste de lord chancelier pendant plus de vingt ans sous Jacques Ier, de 1596 à 1617. Il est également Master of the Rolls de 1594 à 1603.
Il est chargé, entre autres affaires importantes, de suivre le procès du comte de Somerset[Lequel ?], ancien favori de Jacques, accusé d'empoisonnement. Il s'oppose au roi, qui voulait pardonner au coupable.
Il résigne les sceaux en 1617 et désigne Francis Bacon pour lui succéder. Il meurt quelques jours plus tard. Son fils et héritier John (1579-1649) fait également carrière dans la politique.

Alice Spencer, Countess of Derby (4 May 1559 – 23 January 1637) was an English noblewoman from the Spencer family and noted patron of the arts. Poet Edmund Spenser represented her as "Amaryllis" in his eclogue Colin Clouts Come Home Againe (1595) and dedicated his poem The Teares of the Muses (1591) to her.
Her first husband was Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby, a claimant to the English throne. Alice's eldest daughter, Anne Stanley, Countess of Castlehaven, was heiress presumptive to Queen Elizabeth I. She married secondly in 1600 Thomas Egerton, 1st Viscount Brackley and thus became a member of the Egerton family.
